Dave's Delicious Dawgs is family owned and operated. Dave, the President of the business, grew up in South Jersey near Philadelphia where vendors lined the streets. Traveling all along the east coast in the Coast Guard, he realized there was nothing quite like the street vendor’s food from Philly, especially a good quality hotdog. After living in Kentucky for many years with his family and serving the Rough River area as a Pastor/Chaplin, he decided to also "serve" Kentuckians by bringing a wonderful childhood memory to central Kentucky. Dave’s number one goal has been to sell the best products, make customers completely satisfied, and have a great time bringing family together.
It all started when Dave purchased a stainless steel push cart in 2012 that resembled what vendors used on the streets when he was growing up. From the very beginning he wanted his small business to not only bring together families he cooked for, but also impact his own family. While gathering requirements for his new business venture he involved his family on what products to select, including a blind taste test to choose what brand to serve customers.
Dave’s daughter Dani had recently been blessed with a baby boy and left a career in education to join Dave in his business. It was a very exciting time as Dave finished compliance with city and local authorities and set a date to open for business. He and Dani towed the freshly stocked push cart to the local court house and turned on the burners to “sling dogs”. Dave’s Dawgs quickly became a local lunch favorite and Dave was continuously looking for opportunities to expand. The business transitioned focus from the local court house to special events and catering corporate functions. Dave also opened a small diner next to his church to cater to weekend visitors at Rough River Lake.
One day while serving in front of Old Navy he met the Business Services Manager of AAFES and pursued the idea of doing business on Fort Knox military base. As a veteran, Dave found the idea of serving military families very honorable. It wasn’t an easy task, but persistence paid off and Dave’s Dawgs was able to secure a 5 year vendor contract to serve on post. He started off on his cart in front of the Main PX Exchange and within a year expanded operations to four locations on post. The business was able to secure a location inside the mall’s food court competing with national chains Burger King, Charlie’s Philly Steaks, Anthony’s Pizza, and Subway. He also expanded to two locations outside of the food court and was selected to provide concessions for all Child and Youth School Services sports leagues. The business has also established a location at another military post at Camp Atterbury, IN in a stand alone location.
With the rapid growth the company experienced, Dave brought his son in law Josh into the business as CEO. Josh worked around the business since its inception, often helping with special events and assisting with ideas to expand.
Dave’s Delicious Dawgs has enjoyed relatively good success in the last five years and is poised to take advantage of growth opportunities with strategic partners. With its experience and success serving in high foot traffic areas, the company has negotiated a license agreement with American hypermarket chain Meijer and opened a location in Louisville, KY on Hurstbourne Pkwy as well as the food court at the Towne Mall in Elizabethtown, KY.
